Criticism of Seyi Tinubu’s recent tour of the northern part of the country has been described as unnecessary and politically motivated by Comrade Isaac Balami, a senior leader and youth stalwart of the All Progressives Congress.
He argued that Nigerians and Lagosians’ call for Seyi Tinubu to contest the Lagos State governorship may have motivated the sudden smear campaign.
Addressing the media in Abuja on Monday, the former spokesperson of the Trades Union Congress, TUC, and former National Chairman of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers said he would have preferred to write to Seyi Tinubu to express his gratitude for coming so far north with his usual humanitarian and altruistic nature, but chose to express his feelings through the media so that unsuspecting and deluded Nigerians could learn from him.
According to Balami, instead of being attacked for his altruism, Seyi Tinubu should be awarded medals for all he has done for the unity and progress of the country and for extending his humanitarian work to all parts of the country, irrespective of religion or political affiliation.
While describing criticism of his recent visit to the North as unnecessary and politically motivated, Balami said: “Those who hate Nigeria know that what Seyi Tinubu is doing will not only mean a victory for him but also for the youths.”
He added that until the young man approached Seyi Tinubu to run for the highest office in Lagos State, his patriotic acts never offended the sensibilities of some of his detractors.
Balami added that by continuing his commitment to the non-tribal and underprivileged youths, Mr Tinubu seems set to win a medal for peace and unity.

He also said that many Nigerians would like their children to be like Seyi Tinubu, saying, “Of course, who is the parent whose prayer is not to have a child who will dedicate himself to doing the will of God rather than the will of men?
Nigerians should ask young politicians, local government administrators, and other young entrepreneurs to emulate Seyi Tinubu by supporting people who truly need it and not discouraging this young man.
Mr. Seyi Tinubu started this Iftar campaign 10 or 15 years ago, when his father was not yet president of the country. Some say he should resign because his father is the current president. So what’s wrong with the president’s son reaching out to the needy or sincerely sharing moments with northern Muslims during their moment of silence and prayer?
What’s most ridiculous is the insinuation that his action was politically motivated. Even if Seyi does it for political reasons, what’s wrong with it?
We know how presidents’ sons behave. Many will never come down from their pedestal, but Seyi has continued to do what most presidents’ sons never do. It makes sense. So what would Nigerians prefer: a Seyi who partyes around the world or a Seyi who is sensitive to the needs of his people? I am sure some Nigerians will be happy to see the president’s son partying in Dubai and around the world. They will be happy because precious time and resources will be wasted on frivolities. Seyi may have disappointed some people who had such expectations.
It is shocking that we like to trivialize the serious problems of this country and, until we let our emotions take over, we will continue to demonstrate a high level of ignorance when we take a stand on such issues.
Nowadays, many prominent Nigerians have made it a habit to always bring Christians and Muslims closer together during the fasting period. As we speak, many high ranking Nigerians continue to visit the North to support Muslims who are experiencing moments of peace and prayer. How is Seyi Tinubu’s tour to the North different?
During the COVID-19 era, Seyi has shocked the world with his NGO, providing unimaginable services and support across the country. Has Seyi’s personality changed simply because his father is the current president?
I had previously reported how Seyi, with his usual magnanimity, had allocated a huge amount of money for the treatment of an obedient youth who had stood up against his father. He also supported people from all parties, including the youth of PDP and APGA. Only a man with a big heart can help a “translator”.
Balami added that it would be unfair to Seyi Tinubu if people ignored the claims he keeps making through his various humanitarian initiatives, saying that with his detribalized mindset, he has brought more non-tribal staff into his organization.
“More than 50% of the staff in your organization are from the North,” Balami said.
“In my opinion, and as I have said before, Mr. Seyi Tinubu deserves a medal, not the death penalty. I pray that God grants us ‘Seyis’ in our families.” Brother Seyi, do not be discouraged, for your success is undoubtedly for the good of Nigeria.
In the local language, “the only tree that bears ripe fruit is the one that people pick.” Soon Nigerians will begin to see the fruits that are in you clearly.
People wanted you to take the place of God, but you are not God. You, as a human being, have your flaws too. But we are optimistic and believe that you will be remembered only for the good things you have done. “Please continue to do what you can as a human being and completely ignore any distractions,” said the former Deputy Director of the Obi/Datti National Campaign.
Recall that Seyi Tinubu recently visited the North in solidarity with Northerners and Muslim communities in the spirit of Ramadan, giving voice to several people.
